⚖️ Competent Person Requirement: Under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated regulations, employers must appoint competent persons to manage health and safety. BuildBoss PRO is a tool to assist competent persons — it does not make a user competent.
The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR) requires employers and self-employed persons to report certain workplace incidents to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Reportable incidents include:
- Fatalities — deaths of workers or non-workers resulting from a work-related accident
- Specified injuries — fractures (other than fingers/thumbs/toes), amputations, loss of sight, crush injuries to head or torso, burns, scalping, loss of consciousness, any injury requiring resuscitation or overnight hospitalisation
- Over-7-day incapacitation — where a worker cannot perform their normal duties for more than 7 consecutive days (not counting the day of the accident)
- Over-3-day incapacitation — must be recorded (not reported) if worker cannot work for more than 3 days
- Dangerous occurrences — specified near-miss events (scaffold collapse, explosion, contact with overhead lines, etc.)
- Occupational diseases — including carpal tunnel syndrome, occupational dermatitis, hand-arm vibration syndrome, and others
